Kailum Gervais
Current City: Keeseekoose FN, Saskatchewan
Why are you taking part in this challenge?
I am participating in the Bike For Mental Health to not only represent myself, but also for anyone who may be battling mental illness in silence. We are all affected by mental health. Getting out and active to improve, educate and bring awareness to this issue is the reason I will be riding thousands of kilometers this summer.
Who are you riding for?
I am riding for my family, friends and community members who lost their battle to mental illness and to those who continue their battle.

“I am biking to show some strength for people at home here in the communities of Keys, Keeseekoose, and Cote. Keeseekoose is home, but if I can spread a positive message/attitude I will, because in our communities there has been a constant struggle of addictions, self harm, suicide, and other types of abuse along with other types of mental health issues for a long time. I decided to do this because I know I can be a positive role model in these communities. I know this because my brother Kishaun looked up to me. And I’ve watched him skate in the backyard of Keeseekoose First Nation to pumping up the crowd in Portland, Oregon. Even through all the struggles. If you don’t underestimate positive vision and direction, you can work towards your goals and live them. Kishaun is a great example of that and I want to join him and other great people on being a role model for the people.”
